Hands Up!
Thus I will
bless You while I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name. (Psalms 63:4)
This morning as I was standing in the kitchen pouring my coffee and
watching the rain fall from the sky I heard the voice of the Lord say unto me,
“lift up your hands!” The lifting of the hands is a sign of surrender and
reverence. If the police were to stop you their first response would be for you
to get out of the car and lift your hands. The purpose of lifting your hands
indicates to the police you are in agreement and will not try anything tricky.
It also shows you are not hiding anything. This same principle applies in the
spiritual realm as well.
So
many times as believers and non-believers we try to be so strong when we are
faced with various test and trails in life. It is during these times of storm
that we truly begin to realize our natural strength often fails us. Proverbs
3;5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not to our
own understanding, but in all our ways to acknowledge Him(Jesus) and he will
direct our paths. We must truly embrace what it means to F.R.O.G. (Fully Rely
on God). It is when we are at our weakest God becomes the strongest in our
lives.
When you lift your hands as a sign of surrender it does not mean that
you are weak, it simply means you know where your help comes from according to
Psalms 121. Once we surrender our lives to God he steps in and takes over.
Lifting your hands tells God to come in and have his way. Lifting your hands
signifies you have opted to humble yourself under the mighty hand of God.
Lifting your hands tells God that you are willing to stand still and allow him
to work it out. Let it go!
The lifting of the hands is also an act of worship. Worship draws us
into an intimate place with the King. As we lift our hands in worship and we
begin to love of God a great exchange takes place. He takes our brokenness and
sets us free. A peace which surpasses all understand floods our soul. A joy
unspeakable joy enters our life that can not be explained. Lifting your hands
in total adoration unto the Lord reveals your love to him and for him which he
in return pours out on you.
Today I invite you wherever you might be, at work, home, school,
driving, waiting to see the doctor, or just sitting quietly in the park to lift
you hands and give every burden you are carrying to God. He is waiting!
